Week 6. Environmental Conditions

This week I was able to spend a number of consecutive hours at the storage spaces. This gave me the opportunity to process many more boxes and to work on organizing the spaces little better. With no heat and limited light, it was challenging to stay for more than four hours. The dust also became a large concern as it was very difficult to create an space where the dust wouldn't get in the boxes as I opened them. Fortunately, I was able to move into the hallway and keep the dust from moving around too much. The older storage space is particularly dusty given that it's right next to a road; there is an oily dust that is probably from brakes and gas residue. It's imperative that Anne move her collection to the new storage space which is on the second floor and away from the road. The whole experience had me thinking about the physicality of working in an archive and what I'll need to do to stay in shape.
